Why the service exists
Finding the right starting point can be difficult
Home adaptations can cover a wide range of work, from accessible bathrooms, wet rooms and widened doorways to ramps, rails, lifts, hoists and larger building alterations. Companies do not always use the same language to describe these services, and accessibility work may not be clear from a company name alone.
Information about adaptation contractors is often spread across company websites, council records, public frameworks and general trade directories. Accessible Trades brings relevant information into one dedicated UK-wide search experience so people can begin researching accessible home adaptation companies by location and service.
The service combines location-based company searches, registered business activities and manually reviewed supporting sources. The aim is to help people create a more relevant shortlist, save promising companies on their device and understand what information is available before contacting a company directly.
How it works

Search using a town, city, postcode district or full postcode, then choose how far from that location you want to look.
Select the type of work
Choose a home adaptation trade or search across all supported categories. Registered SIC codes are used to identify potentially relevant businesses.

Compare company details, distance, registered activities, websites and supporting evidence. Save promising companies in your browser so you can return to them later without creating an account.

Why some companies are highlighted
Evidence-backed results are shown first
A highlighted result means a relevant source has been found and stored, such as an explicit accessibility service page, a council record, a framework listing or another public source.
Evidence is reviewed against the company identity and recorded with its original source. Where available, the result card may also link to a company website identified during that review.
Supporting evidence can make a result more relevant, but it does not guarantee workmanship, availability, suitability, pricing, insurance or the outcome of a project. Users should still contact companies, ask questions and carry out checks appropriate to their circumstances.

Appearing in search results, having supporting evidence or being displayed in sponsored content does not constitute approval, recommendation or endorsement by Accessible Trades, a local authority or any other organisation.

The service is being built with keyboard access, readable content, visible focus states and reduced-motion preferences in mind.
Sponsored content
Advertising is kept visually distinct
Some areas of the service may contain paid placements. Sponsored content is clearly labelled and may be selected according to the location being searched so that it is locally relevant.
A sponsored placement does not mean Accessible Trades has verified, approved or entered into a business partnership with the advertiser. Sponsored items are separate from the ordering of company search results and do not replace the checks users should carry out.
What the service cannot tell you
Search results are a starting point, not a final decision
Companies House records describe a legal company and its registered activities. A registered office may not be the place from which a company operates, and a SIC code does not prove that a particular accessibility service is currently offered.
Accessible Trades does not inspect completed work, manage contracts, process payments or guarantee that a company will be appropriate for a particular person, property, grant or adaptation.

Public Companies House information remains clearly distinguished from company-supplied details and independently reviewed supporting evidence. Accessible Trades is currently inviting relevant home adaptation companies to help improve the accuracy and usefulness of early enhanced profiles.
