1. Overview
Accessible Trades is designed to work without requiring users to create an account, provide their name or submit personal details.
In the initial release, searches are based on the location, service type and optional company name entered by the user. We do not use those search choices to build an individual user profile.
Limited technical information may still be processed automatically by the services used to host, protect and deliver the website. Accessible Trades also displays information about company officers obtained from public records.
2. Who we are
Accessible Trades is operated by Matthew Moran, a sole trader trading as Accessible Trades. For UK data-protection purposes, the sole trader is the controller responsible for the personal information described in this notice.

3. What the service does not currently do
Accessible Trades does not currently:
- require users to register or sign in;
- ask users to provide their name, postal address, telephone number or payment details;
- provide a user contact or enquiry form;
- save a personal search history against an account;
- send marketing emails or text messages;
- sell or rent user information;
- use behavioural advertising or cross-site tracking; or
- load optional analytics before the user has given consent.
This notice will be updated before any of those features are introduced.
4. Information processed when you use the website
The website itself does not ask you to identify yourself. However, the hosting and security services used to deliver the website may process limited technical information automatically.
This may include:
- your internet protocol address;
- browser and device type;
- operating system;
- requested page or API route;
- date and time of the request;
- referring page, where supplied by the browser;
- response status and error information; and
- information used to detect misuse, automated traffic or security threats.
This technical information is not used by Accessible Trades to create advertising profiles.
If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 may also process information about how your browser uses the service. This can include page paths, approximate location derived from an internet protocol address, browser and device information, referring information, session activity and events generated as you move through the website.
Accessible Trades does not intentionally send names, email addresses, postal addresses, telephone numbers or other directly identifying form data to Google Analytics.
Search criteria may pass through the website address and server request while results are generated. Users should not enter personal, medical or confidential information into the optional company-name field.
5. Public company information
Accessible Trades retrieves and displays information from Companies House and other publicly accessible sources.
This may include:
- company names and company numbers;
- company status and incorporation dates;
- registered office addresses;
- registered SIC activities;
- company officer names, former names, occupations, countries of residence, partial dates of birth, appointment and resignation dates, and officer or principal-office address information where returned by Companies House;
- council or procurement information; and
- references to Disabled Facilities Grant-related or other public evidence.
Some public company information is personal information because it relates to identifiable individuals, including company officers and, in some cases, people whose home address is used as a registered office. Public availability does not remove our data-protection responsibilities.
Normal search results are designed around company identity, status, registered office and registered activities. Officer information is retrieved only where a user deliberately opens company details, rather than being used as a normal search field.
Accessible Trades uses company numbers to connect public company records with supporting evidence and avoid relying only on company names.
If you believe information shown about you or a company is inaccurate, out of date or should not be displayed, contact us using the details at the end of this notice. We may ask for enough information to locate the record, understand the request and confirm that we are dealing with the right person.
We distinguish between our own enrichment, cached Companies House information and the official Companies House register. We can correct our own evidence or website records. Where the official register is inaccurate, you may also need to ask Companies House to amend the source record.
6. How information is used
Limited technical information may be used to:
- deliver requested website pages and search results;
- maintain the reliability and security of the service;
- investigate errors and failed requests;
- prevent misuse, excessive automated traffic and security threats; and
- maintain technical records needed to operate the service.
Where you have accepted analytics, analytics information may be used to:
- understand which pages and features are used;
- understand how users move through the search journey;
- identify errors and usability problems;
- understand commonly used devices, browsers and screen sizes; and
- assess whether service changes improve completion and engagement.
Public company information is used to:
- help users discover potentially relevant companies;
- present company registration and trade information;
- connect companies with available supporting evidence;
- order evidence-backed companies before records without stored evidence; and
- help users carry out further research.
7. Lawful basis
Different lawful bases may apply to the processing described in this notice.
Accessible Trades relies on your consent for optional Google Analytics processing. You can refuse analytics or withdraw your consent at any time through the cookie preferences available from the Cookie Policy page.
For operating, securing and delivering the service, and for using limited public company information, Accessible Trades relies on legitimate interests. We consider why the processing is useful, necessary and proportionate, and how its effect on individuals can be reduced. Those interests are:
- operating and securing the website;
- responding to technical faults and misuse;
- providing a useful company-research service;
- presenting relevant information that is already available through official or public sources; and
- helping users make better-informed decisions before contacting a company.
We aim to use only the information needed for those purposes and to balance those interests against the rights and reasonable expectations of the people concerned. This includes limiting officer information to the company-detail journey, providing source links, accepting objections and corrections, and reviewing whether continued display is justified.
9. International transfers
Some service providers may process limited technical information outside the United Kingdom as part of hosting, security, communications or technical-support services.
Where a restricted international transfer occurs, we require an appropriate transfer mechanism or another lawful safeguard under applicable UK data-protection law.
If you consent to Google Analytics 4, analytics information may also be processed by Google and its subprocessors in countries outside the United Kingdom. Google provides information about the contractual and organisational safeguards used for its services.
You can use all core Accessible Trades features without accepting analytics.
10. How long information is kept
Accessible Trades does not create a personal account history or deliberately retain identifiable user searches in the initial release.
Technical logs, security records and other operational information are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate, protect, troubleshoot and improve the service, meet legal obligations or investigate misuse and security incidents.
Retention periods may differ according to the type of record, the service provider involved and whether the information is required for an active investigation. We periodically review retained information and delete or anonymise it when it is no longer needed.
Where analytics consent is given, Google Analytics data is retained in accordance with the settings applied to the Accessible Trades GA4 property. Aggregated reports may remain available after user-level event data is deleted.
The local Companies House bulk snapshot is retained until it is replaced by a validated newer snapshot. A limited previous copy may be retained temporarily for rollback and operational recovery.
Cached company-profile and officer responses are retained only for the configured cache period and any limited stale-response window used to keep the service available during a temporary Companies House failure. Public company and supporting-evidence records may otherwise be retained while they remain relevant to the company-research service.
Correction, objection, restriction and suppression records may be kept for as long as needed to apply and evidence the decision, including preventing a later bulk-data refresh from unintentionally restoring information that should remain restricted.
12. External websites
Accessible Trades may link to:
- Companies House;
- council and other public-sector pages;
- company websites;
- search engines;
- map services; and
- LinkedIn or other external platforms.
External organisations are responsible for their own websites and privacy practices. Their privacy notices apply when you leave Accessible Trades and use their services.
13. Your data-protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to:
- ask whether personal information about you is being processed;
- receive a copy of personal information held about you;
- ask for inaccurate information to be corrected;
- ask for information to be deleted;
- ask for processing to be restricted;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests; and
- complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
These rights are not absolute and may depend on the information involved, its source and why it is being processed.
These rights are not automatic in every case. In particular, the right to deletion is not absolute. We will assess each request against the information involved, our lawful basis, the source of the record and any applicable legal grounds for continuing to process it.
Contact us to make a request. We may need to confirm your identity before disclosing, correcting, restricting or deleting personal information. We normally respond within one month, although the law permits more time for particularly complex requests.
14. Security
Accessible Trades aims to use proportionate technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the limited information processed by the service.
These may include:
- encrypted connections;
- restricted access to production services;
- protected API credentials;
- dependency and security updates;
- backups where needed;
- security logging; and
- separation between public frontend code and private server credentials.
No internet service can guarantee complete security. We review safeguards as the service and its risks change.
15. Children
Accessible Trades is intended for adults researching or supporting home-adaptation work.
The service does not require users to create accounts or provide their age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.
16. Changes to this notice
This privacy notice will be reviewed when the service, data sources, hosting, analytics, advertising or communication features change.
The last-updated date at the top of the page will show when the notice was most recently changed.
Material changes will be explained clearly before new processing begins where appropriate.
